Dead Fish and Sediment Processing

At Brim farm, we prioritise clean operations and fish welfare through smart, sustainable system design. A key part of this is our separate and dedicated systems for the collection and removal of dead fish and sediment (sewage) from the tank environment.

Dead Fish Management

Dead fish are collected in a specialised bilge well integrated into the concrete base plate of the tank. Using vacuum created by compressed air, the dead fish are safely removed from the tank and transported to the deck.
Once on deck, the fish are processed in a dedicated ensilage system, which includes safe storage and handling for further treatment or disposal.

Sediment and Waste Collection

Similarly, sediment and organic waste are gathered in multiple bilge wells distributed across the base plate. Again, using compressed air to create vacuum pressure, all waste materials are efficiently extracted from the tank.

The collected waste is transported to deck level, where it undergoes a water separation and drying process. After treatment, the dried material is stored in a holding tank for responsible handling or disposal.

This dual system design ensures:

  • A cleaner and healthier environment for the fish
  • Reduced risk of disease build-up
  • Safe, sustainable waste management
  • Optimised operational efficiency

By maintaining a separate flow for dead fish and sediment, Brim farm supports better fish welfare, operational reliability, and environmental responsibility.
